Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This is a combined collection of play materials collected by Lily McGinley and Gertrude Odum. Gertrude Odum (1999-1988) was a professor of English at GSWC and VSC from 1921-1965. The McGinley materials span from 1898 to 1936 and include playbills and programs from productions such as Peter Pan and the Little Minister staring Maud Adams. The Odum Collection includes items from the 1930's to 1960. Odum attended plays in New York annually and wrote local reviews of those plays. This collection includes her programs, playbills, notes, and reviews from the national press. The programs from both collections are notable for their elaborate photographs and drawings. History 3000 students did some research on these plays and biographies of the actors and these are included in the collection. This collection was donated by Dr. John Hiers, retired professor of English.
