ROSA arvenfis from Botany of England. Contemporary hand-colored copperplate engraving by James Sowerby.

Illustartor James Sowerby is best known for his massive work Botany of England. The 36 volume work, started  in 1790 and finished in 1814, contained 2592 botanical plates. Sowerby also created illustrations for volumes on zoology, mineralogy, fungi and fossil shells.
