Jere Madison
Pound; Izzie Bashinski, Secretary-Treasurer of BOR; and W.W. Noyes, interim
and assistant Secretary-Treasurer of BOR |
Correspondence
deals with preparing the University System budget for the upcoming school
year. Contains the Board of Regents meeting minutes of Jan. 22, 1934, in
which Izzie Bashinski is named the new Secretary-Treasurer, replacing Erle
Cocke (whose new job was at the Loan Agency of the Reconstruction Finance
Corporation). Later evidence reveals that Bashinski died in late March. The
grant for construction at University System colleges to be done by the
Public Works Administration was approved by FDR. The BOR minutes also
include a report from the visitation committee regarding their time in
Valdosta: "All the clouds are swept away and the local people are in full
accord with Dr. Pound's management." There is more correspondence
aboutgeneral budget/finance issues. Of interest is a letter from Pound's
secretary to Andrew Kingery (regent) about Frank Reade coming at the end of
May to stay through June, due to Pound's ill health. |
