Money problems in 1938 made planning for the library an on-again, off-again project. W.A. Edwards died and papers detail a plan to put a picture of him in the library as a memorial. 325 Reade Papers: Library Cooperative Store Building 27 03 WPA, Xury B. Carter, John S. Gibson Transmittal letter from WPA, mentions bookmobile workers who get WPA assistance. Included with plans for the store buildings, were plans for the never-constructed heating plant. 329 Reade Papers: May Day, 1938 27 07 Georgia Tech May Day 1938 marked the formal opening of the pool. Letters to attendees from Georgia Tech. The Ga. Tech Mens Swim Team came down; letters to school superintendents in the region inviting them to a meeting to discuss problems between schools and the college. 336 Reade Papers: Dr. Thomas Munro 27 14 Dr. Thomas Munro, Dr. George Works In 1941-42, Reade wrote Dr. Thomas Munro (curator of the Cleveland Museum of Art) and asked him to make a study of the catalog with regard to curriculum changes for a humanities college. Recommended by George Works, of the Works Commission. GSWC's challenge is being a rural liberal arts school, trying to serve groups of smart, regular, and less able students. Letters arranging permission for the project, and proposed changes to the curriculum. Specific letters of note: May 6, 1941 and April 22, 1942 (which has been censored). War intervened in this project.
