Powell's annual
report for 1922-23. Sections include: general, financial programme, the DAR
loan fund, change of name of college, committee on home life of students,
faculty, farm, financial statement/budget, and needs of the college. Of note
in the report are Powell's comments that the college is deep in debt, but
student enrollment is increasing; recommending the name change to Georgia
State Womans College at Valdosta; and reporting that many faculty are
leaving for better paying positions at other schools. Dec. minutes show that
Executive Committee passed resolution to name first two dorms after W.L.
Converse and C.R. Ashley, in honor of their service to the school. Other
minutes contain "usual" business (funding, construction, faculty), but of
note are the outstanding debts of the college that are discussed in nearly
every Executive Committee meeting. |
