Powell's annual
report for 1925-26. Sections include: general; faculty matters; extension
department; the case of Mary Chestnut; buildings, grounds, etc.; financial;
dormitory, farm, summary; and financial/budgets. Powell states the college
cannot grow until more buildings and faculty are provided; the faculty
crisis (1924-25) seems to be over; and the farm is doing unusually well.
Report notes the following trustees who died: John D. Pope (d. 3/30/26);
Alfred V. Wood (d. 4/12/26) and Joseph H. Merrill (d. 12/23/25). These men
served on the Board six, one and 12 years, respectively. Jul/Aug. Minutes
show decision to sell farm and auction equipment. In this section, there are
lists of equipment/stock sold (no date). It's assumed the sale was in the
fall of 1926. Other minutes contain "usual" business (funding, construction,
faculty). |

"As has
practically been the case for five years the College is numerically at a
standstill. Lack of additional buildings has prevented further growth; for
all space--dormitory and teaching room--is full to more than normal
capacity, and teaching rooms are overcrowded." Powell in annual report. |
