In the 1950's the
era of the nigger in southeast Georgia, he etches his name prefaced by Mr.,
on the hall wall of a white man's house during a jubilant awakening to
pride. Consequently, he must die. Six characters, in the eight parts of the
novel, speculate on why P.C. Brown ventured into the forbidden white man's
house, on what precipitated such a timid man's daring to presume.
Subjectively, they explore the effect the circumstances surrounding his deed
and his death had on their lives. |
