- John Porum Davis lived west of Porum, Oklahoma which was named after him. He served as a Counselor from the Canadian district from the years 1851-1859 and as sheriff in 1857. He married one of Chief Bowel's daughters who was a part of the Texas Cherokees. He was Captain of a company of Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Confederates). He held multiple positions in office after the Civil War; he was a member of the Southern Delegation to Washington from 1867-1869, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation in 1869, Senator from the Canadian Discrtic in 1857,1863,1875 and 1879, he remained President of that body during his last two terms and died during his 1879 term
