- Tribal Members of the Cherokee Nation that are living in New Mexico have been holding meetings in Albuquerque and have formed a new organization called "Cherokees of New Mexico". Bob Leach a former Stilwell member is the leader of this new group. Leach has held the position of deputy director for the division of environmental health with the Indian Health Services for the past 10 years. This organization was created to help preserve the culture and share their heritage amongst each other. There are currently over 450 tribal members located in New Mexico.
