- Description
- Before the Civil War, there was a conflict between the white European settlers and the red-skinned Natives. Multiple battles took place over the course of 50 years. These battles resulted in the Shawnee Indians and other tribes almost being destroyed. Indians were forced to give up their lands. Tecumseh was a Shawnee Indian who died while fighting alongside the British during the War of 1812. Bill Gilbert a historian believes that this conflict constituted the first American Civil War. Gilbert published a book discussing this theory in great detail and the life of Tecumseh whose name might have actually been Tekamthi.
