Description
The family history of the Ross family begins in Mayes County with Daniel Ross who sailed to America with his mother who died at sea. When he arrived in Baltimore he was an orphan and joined Mayberry's Trading Expedition. He was then adopted into the Cherokee Tribe after his marriage to Mollie McDonald who was a quarter-blood of the Cherokee. They ended up having nine children and one of the sons ended up becoming Principal Chief of the United Cherokee Nation. Another son named Lewis married a full-blood Cherokee woman named Fannie Holt. His house ended up being sold to the Cherokee Nation for an orphans' asylum.
