Description
This newsletter begins by announcing the next annual meeting at 10am on March 27, 2004, in Grove, OK at the Lakeside Restaurant. Dr. James Pate is a guest speaker who serves as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah. He will speak and the group will also go on a field trip to the Polson-Ridge-Watie Cemetery. A board meeting will be held on March 26, 2004 in Locust Grove. Minutes from the March 22, 2003 meeting are included as well as an announcement for the charter bus that will be available to bring members of the association to the March 2005 meeting. The history of Hilderbrand Beck Mill is included in the issue as well. Lucy West's 100th birthday was on July 27th, 2004 and she is recognized in this issue. This issue also includes advertisements of the Adair Family History book and the Cherokee webpage. Condolences were also extended to the families of Mary Isabel (Parker) Ringo, Bobbye (Jones) Hannah, Robert Earl Williams, and Maggie Lulu "Ghigau" (Ratliff) Gay. A list of Nancy Ward veterans is included as well consisting of: John E. Thompson, Clinton Berdean Dunlap, Flora "Jean" Casey Jordan, John William Adair, Thomas Joseph Arnold, Mark Anthony Arnold, Rickey Dean Young, Alton Cleburn Mann, Thomas Hayden Arnold, Gean B. Atkinson. A research piece about African-Cherokee ancestry is at the end of the newsletter along with an advertisement for the college scholarship that will award $500 to a Nancy Ward descendant.
