Description
Within this clipping, there are three pages. The first page, 99, is an advertisement for DAR Magazine Milestone. The back of that page is a picture of Nancy Ward's tomb with a caption stating its location, U.S. Hwy 411; she is buried beside her son and her brother, and the tomb is in the National Register of Historic Places. The second page, 101, contained an article entitled A Cherokee Family Tale by Elizabeth Johnson that outlined her finding out about her family history and the important figures she was related to. Under this article, another one entitled Nancy Ward (1738-1822) Beloved Woman continued onto the back of this page and the front and back of the next, ending on 104. This article outlined some of her history, though not a lot was available because a lot of Cherokee history was passed by word of mouth until Sequoyah developed the written language a year before Ms. Ward died. Details of her birth, her family, the event that earned her the title of Beloved Woman, as well as the stories of people she saved and helped by using that title for good. The rest of the article also talks about her funeral/burial and gravesite; the author also outlines what led to the discovery of Ms. Ward's descendants and other details.
