Use this section for metadata corrections, file updates, and record maintenance.
Goal
Safely update existing records while preserving metadata quality and file integrity.
Prerequisites
- Permission to edit items in the collection
- Item located by browse, search, or Admin Search
- Change details documented before editing
Find the Item
- Browse within collection
- Search by title or identifier
- Use Admin Search for broader retrieval
Item Editing Areas
- Status
- Metadata
- Bitstreams
- Relationships
- Version history
Edit Metadata
- Open the item edit view.
- Add, edit, or remove fields as needed.
- Save changes.
- Verify display formatting and field order.
Edit Files (Bitstreams)
- Add or remove files as needed.
- Replace incorrect files.
- Update file descriptions.
- Re-check file ordering and primary file settings.
QC Checklist
- [ ] Changes are saved and visible
- [ ] Metadata remains complete and consistent
- [ ] Files open correctly after changes
- [ ] Item still appears in expected collection context
Troubleshooting
- Save conflicts: refresh and re-apply edits carefully
- Missing file after edit: re-upload and confirm bitstream visibility
- Unexpected display: verify metadata labels and field mapping
